FAQ

3D printing is a form of additive manufacturing technology where a three dimensional object is created by laying down successive layers of material. 3D printers are generally faster, more affordable and easier to use than other additive manufacturing technologies. 3D printers offer product developers the ability to print parts and assemblies made of several materials with different mechanical and physical properties in a single build process. Advanced 3D printing technologies yield models that can serve as product prototypes.

The applications of 3D printing are endless. There are limitless applications that 3D printing has an impact on. If you think about how you create products, 3D printing can add value at each stage and help you get there faster, better, and cheaper.  We have divided this into what we believe to be the top 5 verticals below.

Some industries that are already using 3D printing technology are:

– Aerospace/Defense

– Architectural/Geo

– Arts and Entertainment

– Automotive

– Consumer Products

– Education

– Energy

– Government

– Healthcare

– Hobbyist

– Industrial manufacturing

– Jewelry

And they are using 3D printed parts for:

– Consumer/Electronics

– Direct digital manufacturing

– Tooling + fixtures

– Medical devices

– Small-scale flexible manufacturing

– Historical object preservation

– Presentation models

– Art

… and many more.

A significant aspect of the cost associated with 3D Printing is reliant upon part and assembly files. Most of the costs are a direct correlation to material consumption and machine run time. Depending on the size of the file, it will determine the amount of materials that are consumed and it gets priced according.

Confidentiality is a regular request from many our customers. We understand the importance of keeping your designs confidential. We are happy to sign our standard non-disclosure agreement that we’ve developed or one of yours, if that is your preference.

Yes. We sell materials for all the 3D Printing technologies we provide. This includes materials for 3D Systems entire fleet of printers, Markforged, Afinia, Formlabs and more.

On the contrary, depending on your needs, 3D printing is a cost-effective solution to most needs that involve design, alterations and prototyping.

3D printing is not a replacement to mass production, but is more geared towards custom one-offs or short runs.

Some of the reasons the cost of 3D printing is where it is now are as follows:

– Specialized materials used

– Quality comparison between hobby and industrial machines

– Consistency of results

– Cost to buy and run the machines

– Overheads of trained staff to design files, run printers and post-process printed parts.

Objex Unlimited is the proud Canadian distributor of Artec 3D scanning products.

Our highly skilled team of experts understands and uses a variety of 3D scanning equipment

We sell, rent, & lease our scanning products, as well as providing 3D Scanning services.

Are you an:

  • Artist looking to leverage new technology to express your ideas?
  • Business wanting to increase productivity and reduce outsourced scanning?
  • CG animator looking to save time ?
  • So what are Artec 3D Scanners?

Artec 3D Scanners deliver information about the shape of an object within a matter of seconds. They are simple, user-friendly, accurate, quick, inexpensive and can be used with objects of various sizes and degrees of complexity.

Artec 3D Scanners use no lasers and do not produce the sort of magnetic radiation that can damage medical instruments.

There is no need to move scanned items or to place markers on the object. The scanners are light, handheld and portable.

Artec 3D scanners really excel in acquiring full colour, extremely accurate scans of complex and organic shapes. These are high quality scanners available for a very reasonable price.

The colour powder printed models are not painted. They are printed in full colour gypsum powder using inkjet-printing technologies.

Painting the other material varies based on time.

First of all, don’t panic. Take a look at the chart below and see if you can self-assess the problems with your file. If that doesn’t work, call to speak to us at 416-233-7165 and we can try to fix the file issues for you, at a nominal cost.

They are made of a gypsum-blend powder and inkjet printing technologies.
