We will bring your ideas and designs to life by creating working parts, beautiful full-colour models, and rapid prototypes.  Authorized resellers of 3D Systems, Artec, MarkForged and LMI Technologies.

Objex Unlimited is happy to announce that we are now certified resellers of the MarkForged Mark One, the world’s first and only Carbon Fiber, Kevlar, and Fiberglass 3D Printer.

Print Strong Parts.

Have you ever had a 3D printed part that wasn’t strong enough? The revolutionary Mark One prints with the strength of 6160 aluminum. With parts that are up to 30x stronger and 30x stiffer than ABS 3D Printed parts, now you can have the dependability of CNC parts with the flexibility of 3D printing.

How does it work?

The Mark One uses two print heads: One builds Nylon parts, and the other is a revolutionary new print-head that extrudes composite materials to reinforce the nylon to make solid, strong-as-aluminum 3D Prints. The composite materials used in the machine are Carbon Fiber, Fiberglass, and Kevlar.

The Materials

Composites made with continuous reinforcing fibers exhibit substantial increases in strength and stiffness compared to similar materials using discontinuous (chopped) fibers. Carbon Fiber has the greatest strength-to-weight ratio in the world. Kevlar is best for parts that require a degree of abrasion resistance. Fibreglass has the best strength-to-cost ratio, making parts nearly as strong as Carbon Fiber filament, but almost twice the weight.

You can also select pause points in your print to allow embedded components up to 10 micron accuracy.

The Software

The Mark One comes with it’s very own 3D Printing and slicing software, free of charge. Operating on the cloud, you can upload your files, collaborate and share with others, and clone multiple versions of a file for different print configurations. In addition, the software is extremely powerful, giving you the option to automatically choose the orientation of fibers, or specifying the orientation on a layer-by-layer basis.  The software was specifically designed to give users total control over fiber orientation in each layer and thus, directional strength.

Our Experience

We’ve been running the MarkForged Mark One since March of this year and so far it’s been an extremely smooth ride. The rock-solid construction of the milled aluminum makes for a very solid machine. It has travelled to trade-shows, demonstrations, and been through some rough conditions, but is still one of the few 3D Printers that just seems to work every time we go to switch it on and run a print. That is, of course, taking care to run the standard maintenance procedures such as bed levelling, head cleaning, and keeping nylon filament dry (we’ve heard of issues with nylon filament that gets moist under-extruding and causing print problems, but we have not run into this issue personally). The Carbon Fiber filament has a tendency to clog a little easier than other filaments, but there are tools to unclog your heads and Professional Kit ships with lots of spare nozzles.

In addition, we’ve been extremely happy with how the machine generates support materials for the prints, especially since MarkForged has released the firmware update with the improved support material algorithm. Updates seem to be frequent, bringing minor improvements to the operation of the printer each time.

The included Eiger software is by far one of the best slicing and 3D Printing software, giving you a very detailed view of the print and vast customization options for literally every layer of the print. Not only does the software do a great job at automatically generating the best setup and orientation for the Composite Fiber materials, you have the option to reinforce and change everything to your needs.

A fantastic option for those looking for a little more than the standard plastic-jet printers in the Consumer to Prosumer price range. The Mark One printer starts at $5,499 USD for a standard kit, or for $8,799 USD you can get the Professional Kit. If you have any questions, want to see the printers in action, or are looking to order, please don’t hesitate to contact Objex Unlimited 3D Print Studio.

Great news! If you’re looking for a 3D scanner for design, QA or engineering jobs, you now have another good reason to go for Artec Spider, and if you already own a Spider, here’s a fact confirming you made the right choice – the world’s #1 web portal for mechanical computer aided design, MCADCafé, has named Spider the best hardware showcased at SolidWorks World 2015 in Phoenix, AZ. The competition was really tough, with over 100 exhibitors bringing their products to the show, and this makes the award especially valuable.

Here’s what the editor-in-chief of MCADCafé, Jeff Rowe, who has over 35 years of experience in industrial design and engineering, has to say about Spider: “Although about a year old, we’d never seen this 3D scanner up close until this week at SolidWorks World. What impressed us most was the unit’s capture speed and quality, as well as its portability.”

To find out what else impressed Rowe about Spider and which product was chosen the best software, read Rowe’s review.

One of the largest museums of military history in Eastern Europe, the National Museum of Military History in Sofia, Bulgaria, and Threeding.com, a fast-growing 3D-printing marketplace and community, have announced a cooperation agreement for the 3D digitalization of military artifacts.

Under the agreement, Threeding.com will 3D scan part of the museum’s exhibits using Artec Scanners and put up their models in 3D printing friendly format on its portal. All 3D models will be available for free viewing on the museum’s website at www.militarymuseum.bg. A pilot project will mark the centenary of World War One.

Coordinated by Vesk Consult, the project will be running in cooperation with Artec 3D, a global leader in the development and manufacture of professional 3D scanners, which will provide its hardware, software and know-how.

The National Museum of Military History will receive royalties from the sales of 3D models and will be provided with free digital copies of all scanned exhibits, which can then be used for scientific and educational purposes.

Threeding will also work with the Museum of Military History to create a 3D gallery on the museum’s website over the next few months, offering users an opportunity to view exhibits online in 3D.

The partnership, which builds on successful cooperation between Threeding and Bulgaria’s regional history museums in Varna and Pernik, will enable Threeding to add unique military artifacts to its portfolio of 3D-printable models. Currently, there are over 150 models of museum objects, such as ancient sculptures, reliefs, architectural fragments of Ancient Greek and Roman origin, medieval weapons, icons and tools, available for sale in 3D printing friendly format at Threeding.com. The first models are already available on the website and include different weapons, military equipment and soldiers’ art from WW1.

“The National Museum of Military History is certain that the majority of its visitors – young, employed, open to innovations, and familiar with many European practices – will be excited by this new form of museum interaction,” says the director of the National Museum of Military History, Associate Professor Sonya Penkova. “The ambition to create a virtual museum is coupled with the wish to mark the anniversary of World War One using a novel approach for Bulgaria and the Balkans – acknowledging the cost of the war, its human and social ramifications. We hope that our joint efforts will accomplish this ambitious goal.”

3D Systems has announced the expansion of its ProJet® 1200 suite with the arrival of five new materials engineered specifically for the desktop printing capabilities of its micro-SLA 3D printer. These five new materials join the previously introduced VisiJet® FTX Green material, expanding the capabilities of jewelers, dental labs, manufacturers, engineers, and 3D artists in the creation of casting patterns, small end-use parts, figurines and presentation models.

ProJet 1200 – Jewelry

Advancing the production capabilities and throughput of jewelry designers, the ProJet 1200 now has an advanced FTX Cast material, a wax/resin hybrid material developed specifically for compatibility with a wide range of jewelry casting methods and materials, and FTX Gold and FTX Silver for stunning jewelry samples and presentation models.

1200 Gold Silver

Jewelers can easily integrate FTX Cast, which casts much like traditional wax, into existing workflows with the added benefits of 3D printed parts.  Combined with the precision and fantastic surface quality of micro-SLA from the ProJet1200, FTX Cast can be used to create exquisite, detailed pieces from rings to pendants. With glimmering gold and silver particles embedded in the materials, FTX Gold and FTX Silver provide the wow factor that brings customer presentation models and counter samples to life.

ProJet 1200 – Dental

Dental labs use the ProJet 1200 with FTX Green for the production of highly accurate, casting-friendly wax-ups for a range of small dental prosthetics. The ProJet 1200 prints in 30-micron layers at 585 dpi resolution for the production of up to 12 high-quality wax-ups in an hour, right on the desktop. The ProJet 1200 and FTX Green combine for an accelerated workflow with the exceptional results of traditional methods.

ProJet 1200 – Engineering and Manufacturing

Along with the casting capabilities of FTX Cast, engineering and manufacturing customers can take advantage of the arrival of FTX Gray, a high-contrast gray material that’s perfect for prototypes and accentuating fine features, and FTX Clear, a transparent clear material that can be applied in end-use parts and components. As part of the reimagined engineer’s desktop, the ProJet 1200 and FTX Gray and Clear allow engineers a fast way to locally create precise design prototypes of small assembly or components. Micro-SLA parts in FTX Gray and Clear also combine the strength and precision necessary for end-use applications and final one-off custom components, such as electronic connectors, robotics components and more.

ProJet 1200 - 6 Materials

ProJet 1200 – 3D Artists and Designers

Many 3D artists, designers and professional model makers also require strong, precise micro parts for toys, figurines, model aircraft, cars, model trains and more. The expanded ProJet 1200 materials selection provides even more opportunity for creative expression. Precision FTX Gray parts are paintable and they accentuate the fine features for which the ProJet 1200 is known. On top of that, beautiful, transparent FTX Clear parts project a hint of iridescence for stunning clear parts, perfect for a range of sculptures and model components. For artisans creating small cast sculptures, FTX Cast provides a less work intensive way to make accurate casting patterns in the workshop.

“The addition of these five materials represents our commitment to revolutionizing desktop 3D printing and bringing new capabilities to dental techs, jewelers, artists and engineers,” said Buddy Byrum, Vice President of Product and Channel Management, 3DS. “Now a jeweler, for instance, can design a ring, prototype it in FTX Gray, print a customer sample ring in FTX Gold and FTX Silver, and create a final casting pattern in FTX Cast—all from the same machine.”

The expanded VisiJet FTX material range will be available in December 2014 and will be on display at EuroMold 2014 in Frankfurt, Germany from November 25-28, 2014, at the Messe Frankfurt in booths D69 and F90 in hall 11, along with 3DS’ latest 3D printers, advanced material options, cloud-sourced custom parts and digital thread of 3D capture, creation, print and inspection tools.
