What are the different types of 3D Printing?
#Different Types 3D Printing
Since the invention and adoption of 3D Printing (additive manufacturing) over the last several decades, we have seen the rise and fall of a diverse array of technologies.
Below is a list of well know 3D Printing technologies that we use today to provide our customers with the most cutting-edge technology and equipment for their projects.
- ColorJet Printing (CJP)
- Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)
- Continuous Filament Fabrication (CFF)
- Stereolithography (SLA)
- MultiJet Printing (MJP)
- Selective Laser Sintering (SLS)
- Direct Metal Printing (DMP)

Product development today is characterized by high-demand, increasing customer expectations and near constant innovation. To top it all off, product lifetimes are shrinking. The result is driving greater competition among manufacturers with the pressure to do more, better, and faster.
To stay competitive in a market that is perpetually shrinking time to market, manufacturers need to meet and break new release schedules in their product development cycles. Rapid prototyping offers that opportunity.

ColorJet Printing ( CJP ) – Full Color 3D Printing
CJP is perfect for creating full-colour concept models, architectural models and demonstration models
ColorJet Printing (CJP) is an additive manufacturing technology which involves two major components – core and binder. The Core™ material is spread in thin layers over the build platform with a roller. After each layer is spread, color binder is selectively jetted from inkjet print heads, which causes the core to solidify. The build platform lowers with every subsequent layer which is spread and printed, resulting in a full-color three-dimensional model. This technology is used, and great for:
- Full-color concept models
- Architectural models
- Demonstration models
- Highly complex geometries
- Quick production times
Whether printed with color or in standard white, parts can be additionally clear coated to add a hard, smooth coating or wax coated to smooth out the surface finish.
MultiJet Printing (MJP)
3D Systems line of MJP printers is a great resource for MJP printing.
Need Rapid Prototyping of designs with smooth surfaces and highly complex geometries? MultiJet printing is the solution for you.
- MultiJet Printing (MJP) is a new Rapid Prototyping process that provides a quick turnaround for smooth, high-resolution, hard plastic parts with complex geometries.
- The process consists only of UV bulbs and photopolymer materials.
- Printed parts have smooth surfaces and exceptional feature details and mechanical properties suitable for study models, form & fit testing and other applications.
The MJP process consists of a print head, platform, UV lamp, and a planarizer. Just like any 3D-printing machine, the process requires a 3D CAD file. The 3D printer then prints each layer of the file in UV curable liquid plastic onto a flat platform. The wax support material is also jetted to fill voids and other non-freestanding features. UV lamps solidify the materials, creating a fully cured plastic or wax part.
